Want to know my word of the day? Enthusiasm.
Remember when you were a kid and someone mentioned ice cream? Or a water park? Or camping in the back yard? It was the greatest thing ever.
Enthusiasm is a state of mind. Enthusiasm breeds energy. It inspires action and is the most contagious of all emotions. I think one of my secret super powers in life is bringing genuine enthusiasm to everything I do. When I get up in the morning, I’m excited about what the day holds. I genuinely look forward to experiencing my first sip of coffee, going on my morning walk, and then seeing what creative opportunities await in my inbox! What on earth will I be voicing today? I can’t wait to find out!
I also feel enthused and downright pumped to get to mentor TVAS students! This enthusiastic energy that lives just beneath the surface keeps me feeling fresh, creative and like a kid at the water park every day!
Heck yes, voice acting!
So what about you? When was the last time you allowed yourself to get all fired up about something simple? Like eating a sandwich? (Humor me here…it’s a really good sandwich.)
Think of the next task you have ahead of you today… What if you took it on with absolute glee? Like it’s the greatest thing you’ll do all day? You’d definitely be living in the moment. You’d probably do an even better job than if you’d left enthusiasm out of the equation. You’d create joyful energy for yourself that would most likely spill into your next task, and then the task after that, and the one after that…
What would happen if you decided to enthusiastically tackle every voiceover audition as though you already booked the job? Because we already know how enthusiastic you’ll feel when they call to book you!
Here are a few quotes that energize me and keep the good vibes flowing all day. Try hanging your favorite in your booth!
• Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work. – Aristotle
• Men who do things without being told draw the most wages. – Edwin H. Stuart
• The world belongs to the energetic. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
• Wherever you go, go with all your heart. – Confucius
Sending you a jolt of enthusiasm – from my home studio to yours! Tell a great story today… whether you’re on your mic or not (and don’t forget to get pumped about that delicious sandwich).
Before the stroke, I was enthused about everytime I got to go to another workshop at the VAS and being mentored by Mama VO and staff. Then I was enthused about making my demo and becoming a “real” voice actor. Now here we are post stroke, and I’m enthused about getting the voice strong enough to start voice acting again. I have the knowledge (thanks to Mama VO) I have the desire , passion, and “enthusiasm,” I have the studio & equipment, I just have to get this ole voice and stamina back up to be able to make Mama VO proud, and I’m enthused about doing that too!
