In January we focused on getting organized, and February was all about focus.
This month’s theme is on an invisible force that has the power to move you and your career forward as we march into the third month of 2024!
It’s called…
How does momentum apply to voice actors?
Well, momentum, when applied to creating success, is all about making traction by taking consistent action to move yourself forward. Even if it’s one baby step at a time, that forward energy begins to compound into results that help us see our potential more clearly – giving us the confidence to keep going and even take bigger, braver steps.
For example, when a talent begins auditioning for projects, until they book something they might not feel like they’re getting any measurable results. However, every time that talent goes through the process of firing up their gear, stepping up to the mic, interpreting copy and performing, they are in fact getting better at their craft and creating momentum. They’re improving their process, honing their editing abilities and becoming more confident with every script they read. Showing up for ourselves again and again, and flexing our creative muscles counts for a lot, even if you can’t see a profound impact at first!
Imagine a tea kettle. As the water begins to warm, it doesn’t seem like anything is happening. Then one tiny air-bubble rises to the surface… Okay, air-bubble I see you – still not that exciting, right?
But then a slow-and-steady rolling boil emerges, followed by steam rushing out of your kettle and hellllllo whistle! Something’s definitely happening!
If you’ve ever watched water boil it seems to take forever. So, remember this when you submit your very first audition and you expect a rolling boil of bookings and whistles to immediately follow.
Careers build slowly over time, you just have to keep bringing the heat; hot stuff! 😉
It’s the same way when we audition. We submit… we wait… we wonder… and sometimes our kettle whistles sooner than we imagined! (Yay)! Other times it takes us a while to warm up.
Maybe we have more work to do. Or we have to work through our self-doubt. Or maybe it simply takes us a bit of time to align with the right projects.
One audition leads to the next. Your first booking leads to the next and next. (Momentum, baby)!
You feel validated. Your confidence builds and you keep going. Then one day you look in your rear-view mirror and see that you’ve built an amazing voice acting career for yourself.
Show up and do. Show up and do. This is momentum and it will create results for you.
Be honest with yourself. If you apply yourself (to anything) every once in a while – how much measurable impact can you honestly make?
Momentum called and wants to be your friend. Ready to answer that call?
I’m rooting for you!
