Just popping in with a friendly reminder… Nature is an inspiring teacher.
And with spring in the air, we are reminded that nothing in nature blooms all year.
Sometimes we’re in our summer season – meaning we’re in full bloom.
Our autumn season is all about celebrating our bountiful harvest.
And in winter we rest, reflect, reset, and regroup.
So for anyone needing a gentle reminder, whether you’re in your “summer, fall, or winter season” right now, be kind to yourself – you are wildly talented and wonderful all year.
Spring is all about fresh & new. Think about it – the trees and plants start to grow and bud. We prep our gardens and begin planting seeds to harvest later. The days begin to warm and get longer. Hibernation season is officially over as we slowly wake up, open the windows, and let in the fresh air and sunlight. It’s time to start again.
How does spring directly apply to your life & business?
Research suggests that the renewed sense of energy that spring brings boosts our overall mood and mental health, which naturally activates our can-do spirit! Spring is all about planting the seeds of possibilities. It’s put-yourself-out-there-and-
In the voiceover world, right now is a great time to say hello and reconnect with existing clients – and also reach out to new prospects. You might be surprised how effective a short, sweet “shout-out email” to the people who hire you can be. People are in a good mood right now! 😉 More sunlight’ll do that.
I check in with my clients & agents quarterly, and every time I do it creates new opportunities! I hear a lot of, “Wow! Your timing is impeccable! We have the perfect project/audition for you!” Every time you show up, btw, something good will come of it. Simply reminding the people who hire you that you’re still an active talent is very important. It takes time to build trust with production companies and talent agencies. Sadly, many talent give up on themselves just as they’re getting started. Creating traction takes consistent effort and time, so be patient and diligent. And when you audition regularly, voice buyers get more familiar with your name and your vocal range. By showing up often, you put them at ease because they’ll know you’re “around” and not a talent who’s going to give it a shot and then evaporate just as they start getting familiar enough with you to start pitching you to their clients. So keep showing up. Even if you aren’t getting tons of replies or bookings right off the bat. I promise you, your consistent effort will add up and compound. Not to mention the more you flex your chops in your booth, the better you’ll get. Reps create results.
You can “shout out” (market) yourself in a variety of ways. Some talent have a very active social media presence and they interact with voice buyers/agents/producers/
One of the most effective email “shoutout” marketing strategies I’ve used in the past is a simple marketing e-card. It says a lot without getting too wordy. We humans love us some visuals! And ummmm, hello, they know why we’re writing. So keep it brief and make ’em smile. Here are a couple of examples that have done very well for me in the past. Keep in mind the people who hire us celebrate creativity, so have fun, be bold, and be memorable. Something as simple as an e-card and, “Hi! Let’s work together soon!” gets right to it. Don’t overthink it.
There are seasons for everything in life – so embrace whichever season you’re in at the moment with an open mind and heart. And be kind to yourself. Sometimes simply pausing long enough to acknowledge which season you’re in will help give you the clarity you need to direct which steps feel right to take next (even if they’re tiny). Your voiceover journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Patience is required.
Wishing you a spring in your step… and a juicily-written story to read, that’s precisely in your wheelhouse, leading you straight to your #1 dream client.
Keep planting those seeds!
